On October 26, 1958 at 10:30 PM, near the Lock Raven Dam, north of Baltimore, Maryland, two men saw what appeared to be a flattened out egg-shaped object hovering approximately 100-150 feet from the top of the bridge. Suddenly, their car went completely dead. The two men stated that it was like they just cut the key off. Nothing electrical worked. The UFO now began to slowly rise straight up. It was extremely bright as it did, causing the edge of the object to be fuzzy. Within 5-10 seconds the object was out of sight. The men were then able to restart their car, and rush to the nearest phone to report their sighting. The Ground Observor Corp was contacted first, but did not respond. The men then talked to the Towson Police Department, which sent two patrolmen to the scene.

In 1947 were recorded facts appearance of first major American wave of "flying disc" sightings started with formation of ovals seen weaving through the Cascade Mountains of Washington State at 1700 mph by businessman/pilot Kenneth Arnold. Ground observers reported seeing formations of discs at same time and place. More than 1500 reports of daylight sightings in newspapers.
Crop Circles is concentric rings and patterns up to 100 feet in diameter have been appearing in farmers crop fields in England, United States, and other locations since the 1950's. A report stated that 98 circles appeared in 1988, 240 in 1989. The majority of circles are formed around Stone Henge and other megalithic structures. They also appear to be aligned with ley lines. Crop circles always form rapidly at night (within an hour according to some reports). UFO sightings, moving orange lights, "whooshing" or warbling sounds usually preceed the formations of circles.

Project Sign staff report on alien origin of UFOs is rejected by USAF Chief Hoyt Vandenberg due to lack of physical evidence. A CANBERRA academic is investigating one of Australia's most compelling UFO mysteries, a sighting by hundreds of people in the Melbourne suburb of Westall on April 6, 1966. More than 200 students and staff from two schools watched as the object landed in a nearby paddock, lifted off and vanished. Shane Ryan, an English lecturer at the University of Canberra, is interviewing dozens of witnesses for a book he hopes to publish on the 40th anniversary of the sighting.

9 Aug 1978: Wandearah, West, returning home, a mother and daughter, watched as a very bright light came towards them. Bright red, it had three black spots along the bottom of it. The car lost power to near stopping point, twice, even though the woman flattened the accelerator to the floor. She turned onto another road and the car gathered speed, while the light left to the north-west.
UFOs make their presence felt in the modern Sahara. Aim‚ Michel mentions a sighting made at Ouallen, some 250 miles west of the Tassili-N-Ajjer, in 1942. A group of meteorologists spotted an object at an altitude of 18,000 ft. which they described as a revolving "planet." The object remained above them for two days before disappearing. Researchers say they have sometimes detected an unexplained sound at 5KHz frequency emanating from crop circles for just a few days after they are formed. "This corresponds to reports of eyewitnesses who often claim to hear a 'trilling' sound coming from the direction of the formations," says "Peculiarities of Crop Circles".
